If you browse a catalog from any of the high end hunting equipment or outdoor supply
companies, you’ll find ways to mount a rifle above the sun visors or cases that
hang over the back of the seat as well as the traditional rack attached to the inside
of a truck’s rear window. Even your local police officer typically has a scattergun
sticking up out of the console of their Crown Vic, however, my research shows there
has been little thought into finding an acceptable method for mounting a handgun. |

Although side arms are smaller, some of the same considerations
that went into hanging your shotgun/rifle may apply.
By definition, grassburr
really supplies mounted handgun solutions. With a mounting bracket (Top mount
or Side mount) physically installed in different locations where you frequently
keep your side arm, you can simply unscrew the “¼ 20 bolt” and take the gun and
holster from your closet shelf to your vehicle, to your boat, to your hunting Jeep
and back to your closet shelf when you get back home. With mounting brackets
installed in these locations your handgun is always secure.
Handgun Storage
Take a look in your gun safe and imagine how much room you would free up if your
hand irons were safely mounted in holsters attached under the shelves instead of
laying on top of them. How much easier would it be to get to them if they were lined
up side by side rather than front to back? The organization in your safe would improve
so much; you could probably justify going out and buying another gun.
Asset Protection
Most gun enthusiasts spend a lot of time taking care of their shooting equipment.
Sighting them in to make sure you hit where you are aiming, cleaning …. Hanging your
gun up in a mounting device, especially in a vehicle, keeps it out of the routine
clutter. Gun cases are good, but, you don’t want your favorite rifle
banging against the flashlight the whole trip to the hunting lease. So it’s nice
to safely store it up and out of the way of all your other equipment. Now you can
do the same with your side piece.
Convenience
Think about it, if you need it, you can get to it. Especially important when cruising
around the ranch or lease.
Handgun Safety
There’s a higher level of stability when a weapon is in a case or attached to a
secured object. However, a case doesn’t offer immediate availability and they have
a tendency to float around in a moving vehicle. A mounted holster stays where it’s
attached and the weapon is always pointed away from you and others.
Another Handgun Safety Consideration
Pick up just about any owner’s manual from a given gun manufacturer and you will
find a statement that says something to the effect of, “when you chose to carry
a firearm, you have a full time job knowing where that weapon is and who else has
access to the area.”
The issue, more than likely, wouldn’t be brought up if it wasn’t a real problem
with some gun owners. When you go through the thought processes of figuring out
where you want to mount your handgun, purchase the brackets and become involved
with the installation at each location, that’s probably where your guns are going
to be in the future. Of course it’s not 100%, but it’s going to help some gun owners
remember where they spent time configuring bracket installations and therefore help
eliminate other places where they might have just left their gun laying around.
Safety is one of the most important benefits we saw when we came up with the idea
of securely mounting handguns and our hope is that grassburr mountable holsters
will give our customers additional peace of mind.
